Engaged Citizens:

In this video, professors of Concordia University speak about their CityStudio (similar to CityLab) Courses and how they try to match haves with needs: what do we have in the city and what do we need in the city?

When engaged community members work to identify the strengths and weaknesses of their area, they can collaborate on projects that capitalize on strengths and improve weaknesses.  For example, in the Jonestown area, land value is high, but property values are low; the location is great, but Jonestown lacks connectivity and walkable sidewalks.  Investment in Jonestown, concentrating on its strengths (great location and potential value) can help transform potential value into realized value for community members.

Social Vulnerability Index: can engaged community members bring prosperity and safety to Jonestown?
My Hypothesis is: Yes. Engaged Community Members can capitalize on the strengths of Jonestown in order to bring new business initiatives and vibrancy to the area. As mentioned on the previous pages, community members will have to advocate for public assistance for access to capital, loans, and tax breaks to encourage investment in the area.
